R5 Roman glass phalera (military pendant) £650

 


A fragment from a dark blue glass phalera in the form of a female head.

Phalerae were awarded for bravery to Roman soldiers and worn on the breastplate during parades, in the same manner as modern medals.

Roman, 1st Century AD

Repaired from several pieces, area of loss below the chin

Size: 3.5 x 3.7 cms, 2.2 cms deep
