|W69||Achaemenid large faience rosette||£400|
A large green glazed faience disc moulded with a lobed pattern to form a sixteen petal rosette around a central piercing.
Sixteen and twelve petalled rosettes recur frequently in Achaemenid and neo-Assyrian iconography. The decoration occurs perhaps most frequently on the tondo of metal drinking vessels but also on glazed bricks such as those found along the edges of a ceremonial stairway at Persepolis.
Achaemenid, 6th or 5th Century BC
